This Japanese Geisha doll wears a stunning black kimono embellished with metallic gold, blue, red and purple designs. The red obi is decorated in the back with a large silken bow in light pink, gathered in the center with a blue band. The kimono itself is called a susohiki because it is longer than the traditional kimono and is supposed to trail along the floor. Susohiki literally means “trail the skirt”. It is why Geisha and Maiko lift their kimono skirts when walking outdoors, but it also gives them the opportunity to show their lovely underkimono or “nagajuban”. The doll’s nagajuban is in a striking shade of red.
This stunning doll has red braided cord wound around the upper part of her painstakingly coiffed Geisha hairstyle, with two lower loops, one on each side in the back. In the front of her hair is a dazzling red metallic ribbon coming upward to form a bow. The doll has additional ornaments in her hair with graceful gold chains hanging down and a lavish gold comb in front. These ornaments are called kanzashi. She holds in her graceful hands a fan and she is adorned in the classic Geisha painted face. The doll is new in box, is approximately 12 ¾ inches tall and stands on a 5 inch square black lacquered base. This incredible doll represents the rich heritage of the Japanese Geisha and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. See this exquisite doll here
