Japanese Vases – More Than a Vessel

These days, almost everyone has an Asian themed or styled vase in their home. Japanese vases in particular are recognizable for their delicate and often ornate floral patterns and nature scenes. Ikebana, or “arranged flower,” is the art of Japanese flower arrangement, a disciplined art form that puts into practice the philosophy of being closer to nature. One of the most traditional of Japanese arts, Ikebana has been in practice for over 600 years, and just as all of the essential elements of the flower arrangement must meet Ikebana standards, so does the vase play a part in the execution of the whole.

Japanese vases vary greatly in shape and size, color intensity, subject matter and function, and choosing the right one for a room may rely on a few factors. Does the room need a focal piece?
